What God is Doing for Us

“…he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father” John 14:12

"I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10

Moving in Gifts of the Spirit

Here we were – a group of recovering legalists looking for something more than just blind commandment keeping and brow-beating others into doing the same thing.  We were sick of relying on our religion to save us.  We wanted to experience God and move in the gifts of His Holy Spirit!  A few months before, we had attended an interdenominational conference on healing and spiritual impartation; and we liked what we saw – miraculous healings and powerful manifestations of baptism in the Holy Spirit – without regard to an individual’s chosen denomination.  Several of us wanted to move in the Spirit; and the most desired gifts were those of healing and a personal prayer language.  Although we had been praying for this for several months, we weren’t experiencing any breakthrough in these areas.
Over time, God brought into our congregation some people who already had considerable experience in the charismatic gifts.  Some of them eventually assumed leadership positions in our church.  One Saturday morning, after a rousing worship service and an inspirational sermon, one of these individuals invited people up to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. About half a dozen of us came forward; and James laid his hands on us and prayed.  After he prayed, he directed us to start praying “in tongues” in faith trusting that the Holy Spirit would direct our utterances.  Praise God; two of us who had earnestly desired this gift spontaneously received our prayer languages – not just a couple random syllables; but a rich and beautiful vocabulary that flowed spontaneously from our lips!  It was an overwhelming blessing to actually be in control of a beautiful tongue in which we could personally approach our God through the utterances of His Spirit!  Tears flowed down my face as I praised God for the gift He had given me, using that very gift!  To this day, whenever I need to release supernatural power in my life, pray earnestly for healing of sickness or deliverance from evil circumstances and stress, I can confidently rely on my prayer language to bring healing and calm; and to feel God’s presence surround me with His love!
