What God is Doing for Us

“…he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father” John 14:12

"I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10

Old Habits Dying

I have fought and battled a nicotine addiction for 13 years. During all this time I tried to quit repeatedly. I asked God to intervene and take away my desire to chew tobacco yet I never seemed to be able to break free. To say that I have been frustrated with my progress is a gross understatement.

However, a testimony at Lone Tree Community changed all this. At worship a man shared about his addiction with smoking and how he had struggled for decades with it. He spoke about completely surrendering his will to God and realizing that the power of the Holy Spirit is the only way to overcome battles. I was touched by his testimony and remembered Revelation 19:10 “The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophesy.” After worship I asked him to pray for me. He prayed a simple prayer that right then and there my burden of trying to quit would be gone and that through the power of the Holy Spirit my cravings would be gone “in Jesus name.” Since that day I have not had any desire to chew tobacco or smoke. It has been a year now and only because of God is it possible that I have gone this far. Previously, I had never been able to stay away for more than 6 months. God transforms lives!

In less than a years time our congregation has seen three members miraculously healed of addictions just like this one. I say miraculous because none of them had to use gum, or the patch, or counseling, or any other method of self-control. They each invited Jesus into their circumstances, and He did the rest.
